To apprise ecological hazard of the products formed upon light-induced
conversions of polychlorinated phenols, direct photolysis under illum
ination with solar light or filtered light from mercury lamps of aqueo
us solutions of some chlorinated phenols (2,4,5-TCP) with a buffer und
er aerobic and anaerobic conditions was studied. Concentrations of chl
orinated phenols and photolysis products were measured by spectrophoto
metric and chromatographic techniques, including high-efficiency liqui
d chromatography and chromatomass-spectrometry (an ITD Finnagan MAT in
strument). The fact of formation of polychlorinated dibenzodioxins and
dibenzofurans is established.
