Abstract
This paper derives six objectives for routing hazardous material by vi ewing shipments as a sequence of independent Bernoulli trials. Art exa mple that compares these objectives is presented. Suitable approximati ons toward the use of these objectives in an optimization framework ar e provided. The paper also discusses the objectives from the viewpoint of their use to make actual hazardous material routing decisions.
