Abstract
The boundary element method is used to analyse the thermal characters of a column in contact with an insulated floor. A computer program is developed to solve steady-stale heat pow problems in three dimensions. The effects of floor thermal conductivity and insulation length on th e total rates of heat pow and temperature distribution are investigate d, and an efficient insulated column is discussed.
