M. Mourier, EFFECTS OF NEEM (AZADIRACHTA-INDICA) KERNEL WATER EXTRACTS ON CASSAVAMEALYBUG, PHENACOCCUS-MANIHOTI (HOM., PSEUDOCOCCIDAE), Journal of applied entomology, 121(4), 1997, pp. 231-236
The effect of neem kernel water extract (NKWE) in different concentrat
ions on cassava mealybug, Phenacoccus manihoti, was investigated. A ch
oice-test showed that neem treated cassava leaves were less attractive
to first instar mealybugs than untreated leaves. Mealybugs that start
ed feeding on treated leaves died in their second instar. A greenhouse
experiment showed that three applications of NKWE at weekly intervals
protected cassava against established early instar mealybugs. There w
ere no significant differences between concentrations of 1, 10 and 25%
. All concentrations were phytotoxic to a varying degree.
