Abstract
Cells with different carbon anodes of large surface area were studied by two-dimensional computer simulation to evaluate their suitability f or the electrolysis of alumina in chloride-based electrolytes at high superficial current densities. The most efficient anode arrangement wa s determined, which would overcome the electrochemical disadvantages o f the low solubility of alumina in a chloride melt.
