An. Afanasenkov et Kk. Shvedov, METHOD FOR EVALUATING CRITICAL DIAMETERS OF BURNING OF AMMONIUM-NITRATE BASED EXPLOSIVES, CHEMICAL PHYSICS REPORTS, 16(1), 1997, pp. 137-141
A method for evaluating critical diameters of burning of contemporary
ammonium nitrate based explosives at normal pressure is suggested. The
critical diameter for for burning of flaked TNT is found to be 60 mm,
granulated ammonium nitrate, grammonite 79/21, 6ZhV ammonite, and igd
anite do not burn even in charges 100 mm in diameter. The dependences
of critical diameters for burning of RDX mixtures with ammonium nitrat
e and 6ZhV ammonite and of ammonium nitrate with carbon black on the c
oncentrations of their components are determined, these dependences ar
e used to evaluate the critical diameter for burning of ammonium nitra
te (170-200 mm) and for burning of 6ZhV ammonite (300 mm).
