Abstract
We present the case of a 43-year-old male patient who suffered from a massive pulmonary embolism, induced by a peritoneovenous shunt of the Denver type. Calculation of the count rates of the ventilation and per fusion scintigraphy respectively showed a too low ventilation/perfusio n ratio. After reinjection of additional Tc-99m-MAA the second perfusi on study showed further mismatch areals. Count rate ratio determinatio n is essential as a clinical quality control.
