Abstract
DY Per was confirmed photometrically as an R CrB variable by Alksnis i n 1994. Spectra near maximum light show the high-speed ejection of mat ter (sodium at -174 km/sec(-1) in DY Per) characteristic of many of th ese variable stars. Moderate hydrogen deficiency may also be present. DY Per is remarkable in having a temperature many hundreds of degrees lower than most of the R CrB variables. It is unusual also in not show ing clear spectroscopic evidence of high luminosity.
