Mc. Dameto et al., EFFECT OF CAFETERIA DIET ON ALPHA-MG INTESTINAL-ABSORPTION IN RATS, Comparative biochemistry and physiology. Part A, Physiology, 108(2-3), 1994, pp. 467-470
The effect of a cafeteria diet (a hypercaloric diet) on the accumulati
ve ability of the mediated and non-mediated small intestine transport
of alpha-methyl-D-glucoside (alpha-MG) in developing female Wistar rat
s was studied using everted intestinal slices. Cafeteria diet increase
d intestinal active transport and decreased intestinal passive diffusi
on of alpha-MG in 30-day-old rats. No differences in alpha-MG intestin
al absorption were found in cafeteria vs control rats after the develo
pment of obesity in cafeteria diet fed rats. A link between gastrointe
stinal functions and the development of obesity induced by cafeteria d
iet is suggested.
