Abstract
A method based on the quadratic form of free energy was suggested for calculating the orientational surface order parameter in the isotropic phase of nematogeneous compounds. Good agreement with the experimenta l data allowed the orienting potential for various solid supports that were pretreated for planar and homeotropic molecular orientation to b e calculated.
