Abstract
A highly dispersed aqueous colloid of metallic silver was obtained by reducing AgNO3 with NaBH4. Stabilization of the silver sol was achieve d by adding sodium trimetaphosphate, polyvinyl alcohol, or some nitrog en- and sulfur-containing surfactants. Small silver clusters were obta ined by forming colloidal silver particles on a PVA-based polymer matr ix, which impeded oxidation and coagulation of silver particles at ear ly stages of reduction.
