A. Pomeranz et al., RELAPSING HENOCH-SCHONLEIN PURPURA ASSOCIATED WITH A TUBOOVARIAN ABSCESS DUE TO MORGANELLA-MORGANII, American journal of nephrology, 17(5), 1997, pp. 471-473
Henoch-Schonlein purpura is the most common vasculitis in children. It
is frequently preceded by either viral or bacterial infections of the
upper respiratory tract. We present a 15-year-old female who develope
d recurrent episodes of Henoch-Schonlein purpura. Eventual investigati
on of the patient's abdominal pain, initially attributed to vasculitis
involving the gastrointestinal tract, revealed a left tube-ovarian ab
scess caused by Morganella morganii. Salpingooophorectomy resulted in
complete remission of the disease process.
