We consider polyampholytes (PAs), which are polymers carrying positive
and negative charges. The PAs are submitted to electric fields and co
llide with single obstacles. Field separation of PAs depends drastical
ly on tau(u), the time to unhook. Our analysis shows tau(u) to be very
sensitive to the charge distribution of the chains: Unhooking is diff
usional for regular, multiblock PAs, with tau(u) depending on the leng
th of the blocks; for random charge distributions tau(u) increases exp
onentially with the PAs' length and unhooking is subdiffusive.
