Low-frequency Raman and far-infrared spectra of liquid acetone/chlorof
orm mixtures show a different behaviour on the concentrations. The fre
quency of the band maximum of the low-frequency Raman spectra in the R
(<(nu)over bar>)-representation shows a blue shift Linearly with the m
ole fraction of acetone. This behaviour is in accordance with the beha
viour of the isothermal compressibility of acetone/chloroform mixtures
. The frequency of the band maximum of the far-infrared spectra shows
a more complex behaviour as a function of the relative concentrations.
This can be explained in terms of an additional absorption arising fr
om a complex between acetone and chloroform. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science
