Abstract
This paper is concerned with the validity of scalar models frequently used in analyzing scattering of electromagnetic fields by bodies with sharp boundaries. The fact that the electromagnetic field vectors gene rally undergo discontinuous jumps at the boundaries is usually ignored . We derive a modified equation which takes the field discontinuities into account and we discuss some of its consequences. (C) 1997 Publish ed by Elsevier Science B.V.
