Og. Usyarov et al., INFLUENCE OF PARTICLE AGGREGATION IN SUSPENSIONS ON ION ADSORPTION, Colloid journal of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 56(3), 1994, pp. 380-384
The influence of the interaction of double layers (DL) of dispersed pa
rticles on ion adsorption was discussed. The solution of the Poisson-B
oltzmann equation, provided the surface potential was constant, made i
t possible to obtain the dependence of the ion adsorption on DL overla
pping, which was characterized by the potential in the symmetry lane o
r the force of the ion-electrostatic interaction of particles. Approxi
mate expressions for calculating both overlapped and non-overlapped DL
were derived for the case of small surface potentials. It was shown t
hat the DL interaction that accompanies aggregation of the dispersed p
articles may strongly affect the measured values of ion adsorption.
