Under irradiation, the corrosion rate of Zircaloy elements is known to
be increased due to the combination of factors. This paper is a revie
w of the recent work performed to analyze the contribution of the majo
r physical phenomena involved in this increase in corrosion rate: the
irradiation induced changes in microstructure, the thermo-hydraulic co
nditions, including associated chemical changes, and the effect of irr
adiation on the corrosion process itself (radiolysis in the coolant an
