A survey of more than two hundred faculty in the social sciences and h
umanities was conducted at York University in March 1992. Findings con
firm that faculty recognize the importance of BI, or library research
instruction, and the need to improve students' library research skills
across all disciplines surveyed. Significant differences among depart
ments were revealed in the types of library research instruction prefe
rred, providing insight into how librarians could proceed with maximum
faculty support.
