Composite materials formed by nanometre-sized Ag or Cu clusters in gla
ss are studied by optical absorption spectroscopy. The technique is ap
plied to composites prepared by recently developed new methodologies,
showing peculiar spectral features depending on the preparation route.
Tests of optical absorption theoretical models are presented.
