R. Emparan, BLACK-HOLES AS FUNDAMENTAL STRINGS - COMPARING THE ABSORPTION OF SCALARS, Physical review. D. Particles and fields, 56(6), 1997, pp. 3591-3599
The recently proposed ''correspondence principle'' of Horowitz and Pol
chinski provides a concrete means to relate (among others) black holes
with electric Neveu-Schwarz-Neveu-Schwarz charges to fundamental stri
ngs and correctly match their entropies. We further test this correspo
ndence by examining the greybody factors in the absorption rates of ne
utral, minimally coupled scalars by a near extremal black hole. Perhap
s surprisingly, the results disagree in general with the absorption by
weakly coupled strings. Though this does not disprove the corresponde
nce, it indicates that it might not be simple in this region of the bl
ack hole parameter space.
