Abstract
Seventy-two water samples were collected in the Niger river at Bamako (Mali) during the years 1990, 1991 and 1992. Analyses allow the determ ination of the geochemical weathering budget, estimation of the rates of chemical erosion, physical erosion and profile thickening for a tro pical basin under rather dry climatic conditions. For comparison, the same weathering parameters were determinated for the basins of the Ama zon (Brazil) and the Chari (Chad).
