Abstract
This article reviews the role of ultrasonography in the diagnosis and management of emergent or urgent gynecologic problems of infants and c hildren, and the gynecologic and obstetric emergencies of adolescent g irls. Pelvic sonography is usually the initial imaging modality chosen in the evaluation of children and adolescents with vaginal bleeding, pelvic pain, or pelvic masses. The important role of transvaginal sono graphy in the nonvirginal patient is reviewed, and the diagnostic dile mmas of early intrauterine and ectopic pregnancy are discussed.
