The Catalytic properties of iron-containing ultrastable Y zeolites for
the oxidation of methyl methacrylate to methyl pyruvate by H2O2 have
been studied. It is found that iron species in cation positions and fr
amework lattice are active sites. Combining Mossbauer spectroscopy and
temperature programmed reduction techniques, we attribute the reducti
on peak with a temperature maximum at about 1123 K to the reduction of
Fe3+ in the framework of zeolites to Fe-0. Fe(III) in the framework l
attice gives an EPR signal at g = 2.0.
