Gm. Hassib et Ha. Amer, ON THE SPARKABLE REGION PHENOMENA IN ELECTROCHEMICAL ETCHING, Nuclear tracks & radiation measurements, 22(1-4), 1993, pp. 125-128
It was observed by Hassib, et al.. that, for electrochemical etching o
f a given alpha energy, a layer has to be removed from the detector su
rface to reach a defined region. At this region, the track geometry is
quite suitable to be sparked when applying the electric field. No tra
cks can be revealed electrochemically before reaching or after exceedi
ng this region. In this work, a study is given about the sparkable reg
ion phenomena in view of the energy loss mechanism of alpha particles
in the detector material. Some empirical formulae are given to correla
te the depth and the width of the sparkable region with the energy of
normal incident alpha particles.
