AUTOMATED IMAGE-ANALYSIS SYSTEM FOR ETCHED TRACK COUNTING - A PRELIMINARY-STUDY

A preliminary study as an automated image analysis system for etched t rack counting is described la this short report. The system made a fea ture of full automation in the operation mode of automatic measurement . All the hardware components were commercially available except the s pecially-designed microscope control salt. The programs for autofocus and autoscanning, sad for track measurement were all developed by our group. Tests with chemically etched alpha-particle tracks in CR-39 det ectors showed that the agreement between the results of visual countin g and that of automatic counting was acceptable. Improvement of softwa re for track measurement is still in progress and the preliminary resu lts are encouraging.
