Hh. Cui et al., STUDY OF THE INTERACTION OF 960-MEV N U-238 IONS WITH LIGHT-NUCLEI/, Nuclear tracks & radiation measurements, 22(1-4), 1993, pp. 561-564
A CR-39 track detector was used both as a target and a detector to stu
dy the interaction of 960 MeV/N U-238 ions with light nuclei (H-1, C-1
2 and O-16). The range, mean free path and cross section of 960 MeV/N
U-238 ions in the CR-39 have been measured and compared with the calcu
lated value. The multiplicity due to fragmentation of U-238 projectile
s with H-1, C-12 and O-16 nuclei has been found to be 2.03. It shows t
hat the most common mode of the interaction is binary fission. The rea
ction products consist of two track peaks. The ratio of the track dens
ity of the light and the heavy peak to the track density of total reac
tion products comes out to be 20 % and 80 % respectively.
