Abstract
Although lateral internal sphincterotomy is widely accepted as the tre atment of choice for anal fissures, we report our experience of succes sfully treating 195 consecutive patients with posterior chronic anal f issures by performing fissurectomy with midline sphincterotomy and ano plasty (FPSA). The surgical technique is described and its indications and results are briefly discussed.
