Abstract
An analytical method based on alkaline freeze drying, ultracentrifugat ion, and quantitative gas chromatography was established to differenti ate between mucosal uptake, tissue accumulation, and serosal release o f SCFA in pig hindgut. It was shown that serosal release of SCFA was s ubstantially lower than mucosal uptake and tissue accumulation, indica ting substantial degradation and/or metabolism during transepithelial movement.
