A simple analytical model is presented that describes impurity ion pro
duction and transport in the tokamak scrape-off layer (SOL). The equat
ions of the model are solved analytically in the test particle approxi
mation. The solution, as a function of different plasma parameters and
target materials, is discussed in the case in which the background pl
asma is described by the simple SOL model and a comparison between the
model and the numerical results of a 2-D multifluid code is presented
.
