Nv. Vyazovikina et al., KINETICS AND MECHANISM OF SCANDIUM DISSOLUTION IN SULFURIC-ACID-SOLUTIONS, Russian journal of electrochemistry, 33(9), 1997, pp. 950-957
The kinetics of the chemical and electrochemical dissolution of scandi
um in sulfuric acid solutions during corrosion and polarization is stu
died and the corresponding mechanisms are proposed. Chemical compositi
on of passivating layers that form on the metal surface in corrosion a
nd polarization is determined using the Auger electron, X-ray photoele
ctron, and IR spectroscopy techniques. It is shown that the Sc2O3 oxid
e possessing weak protective properties is the main component of the p
assivating layer.
