R. Saraymen et al., BLOOD-SERUM SELENIUM LEVEL OF ADULTS LIVING IN THE PROVINCE OF KAYSERI-TURKIYE, Fresenius environmental bulletin, 6(11-12), 1997, pp. 694-698
Blood serum selenium levels were determined by graphite furnace atomic
absorption spectrometry using palladium as matrix modifier in healthy
adults of the province of Kayseri-Turkiye. The mean selenium concentr
ation of 73 adults were found to be 1.635 (mu mol/l. Serum selenium co
ncentrations in females were statistically lower than (p< 0.005) in ma
les. There was a general tendency in the concentrations of selenium to
increase with age. No significant correlations were found between ser
um selenium concentrations and age groups and sexes.
