N,N'-Diphenylguanidine reacted with the hydrido complexes [MH2(CO)(PPh
3)(3)] (M = Ru or Os) and mer-[IrH3(PPh)(3))(3)] in boiling toluene to
afford the complexes [MH{PhNC(NH2)NPh}(CO)(PPh3)(3)] and [IrH2{PhNC(N
H2)NPh}(PPh3)(2)] in which the N,N'-diphenylguanidinate anions adopt a
symmetrical chelate coordination mode. Under similar conditions the t
rifluoroacetato complexes [M(O2CCF3)(2)(CO)(PPh3)(2)] afforded salts [
M(PhNC(NH2)NPh}{PhNC(NH2)NPh . H}(CO)(PPh3)(2)][O2CCF3] containing one
chelate N,N'-diphenylguanidinate anion and one monodentate N,N'-diphe
nylguanidine ligand. Spectroscopic evidence indicates that the trifluo
roacetate anions are hydrogen bonded to one or more of the N-bound hyd
rogens.
