Abstract
PURPOSE: To report molluscum contagiosum asa cause of severe posttraum atic intraocular inflammation. METHODS: A 9-year-old girl developed se vere intraocular inflammation in I-he right: eye after a corneoscleral laceration. She underwent vitrectomy, and bacterial and fungal cultur es of intraocular fluids were negative. A pedunculated white-tan mass removed from her right optic nerve head was sent: for histologic evalu ation, RESULT:Histologic examination of the tissue showed stratified k eratinizing squamous epithelium with intracytoplasmic inclusions consi stent with molluscum contagiosum, CONCLUSIONS: It is likely that infec ted epithelial cells were implanted at: the rime of injury, Vitrectomy as debridement was curative.
