A new mixed pyrazolyl phosphine oxide ligand, viz., bis(3,5-dimethylpy
razolyl) chlorophosphine oxide (1) has been prepared from the reaction
of POCl3 and 3,5-dimethylpyrazole. The compound (1) has been characte
rised by elemental analysis, LR, UV-visible, H-1 and C-13 NMR spectros
copy. The ligand undergoes smooth P-N bond cleavage when reacted with
Cu(II) in EtOH medium and copper(II) complexes of the type [Cu(DMPZ)(2
)X-2] (DMPZ=3,5-dimethylpyrazole; X-Cl- or CH3COO-) have been isolated
which have been characterised by elemental analyses, IR, UV-visible,
magnetic and EPR measurements.
