A series of novel mixed-ligand cyanonitrosyl complexes of Mn(I) have b
een synthesized by the reaction of pentacyanonitrosylmanganate(I) anio
n ([Mn(NO)(CN)(5)](3-)) with 2- or 3-pyrazoline-5-one derivatives. The
products, which have been characterized by elemental analysis, molar
conductance measurements, magnetic susceptibility measurements, thermo
gravimetric analysis, electronic and IR spectral studies, have the gen
eral formula [Mn(NO)(CN)(2)(L)(2)(H2O)] (where L=2- or 3-pyrazoline-5-
one are derivatives. Octahedral configuration with low-spin {Mn(NO)}(6
) species has been suggested for these complexes.
