Z. Uysal et al., IMPACT OF THE RECENT OIL-SPILL (NASSIA) IN BOSPORUS (TURKEY) ON DEVELOPMENTAL STAGES OF SEA-URCHIN PARACENTROTUS-LIVIDUS LAM. EGGS, Fresenius environmental bulletin, 6(9-10), 1997, pp. 584-588
The gametes and embryos of Paracentrotus lividus were exposed to vario
us dilutions of water-soluble fractions (wsf) of oil prepared at two d
ifferent temperatures (18 degrees C and 24 degrees C) to observe devel
opmental defects during fertilization and larval stages up to pluteus.
Emulsions at 24 degrees C have yielded better fertilization rates and
development of larvae against emulsions at 18 degrees C. In general,
developmental defects were increased with increasing wsf of oil and it
s toxicity decreased with increasing temperature.
