Abstract
Observations of methyl nitrate (CH3ONO2), a secondary product of the a tmospheric photooxidation of organic compounds in the presence of NOx, were made at two sites in Germany. The maximum mixing ratio observed was 0.24 ppb. The methyl nitrate to peroxyacetyl nitrate ratios increa sed more than an order of magnitude from high to low PAN mixing ratios , so that methyl nitrate mixing ratios were around 40% those of PAN at low PAN levels. No pronounced diurnal variation could be firmly estab lished.
