Sm. Soloviev, CALIBRATION OF HEAVY-ELEMENT NUCLEAR TARGETS BY RUTHERFORD BACKSCATTERING OF ALPHA-PARTICLES, Nuclear instruments & methods in physics research. Section A, Accelerators, spectrometers, detectors and associated equipment, 397(1), 1997, pp. 159-162
A simple and fast method for the determination of the thickness and th
e local thickness distribution of heavy element targets, based on the
backscattering of alpha-particles from a Po-210 source, is described.
Examples for its applications to radioactive and stable isotope target
s are given. Compared to alpha-activity counting, the time required fo
r the characterization of radioactive targets of long-lived isotopes l
ike Th-232 and U-238 is considerably reduced.
