The properties of hot atomic microimpurities ((CO)-C-57,58, Mn-54) in
cyclotron metallic targets were investigated using the reaction Mn-55
+ alpha with emission Mossbauer spectroscopy employed to estimate the
electronic state of the hot atoms. gamma-Radiation self-absorption and
sectioning methods were used to define the diffusion coefficients at
670-1200 K. The position of the Co-57 atoms in the manganese lattice a
fter irradiation and subsequent heating at the temperature of polymorp
hic alpha-->beta manganese (1000 K) transformations was established. R
apid diffusion of cobalt atoms at the polymorphic alpha-->beta mangane
se transformation was revealed. The radiochemical behaviour of Co-57,C
o-58, Mn-54 after target dissolution was studied. The conclusion arriv
ed at is that hot impurity atoms are a very effective tool in investig
ations of metallic cyclotron targets.
