Ww. Dzwierzynski et al., ANATOMY OF THE INTERMETACARPAL LIGAMENTS OF THE CARPOMETACARPAL JOINTS OF THE FINGERS, The Journal of hand surgery, 22A(5), 1997, pp. 931-934
In this study, the structure of the retaining ligaments between the pr
oximal metacarpal bones of the fingers was dl fined. Anatomic dissecti
ons were performed on 10 fresh cadavers. Four separate ligaments were
found: a dorsal metacarpal ligament, a palmar metacarpal ligament, and
2 interosseous ligaments oriented in a V-shaped configuration. The V-
shaped interosseous ligaments were found to be the strongest; along wi
th the palmar and dorsal intermetacarpal ligaments, they form a very s
trong connection between the bases of the adjacent metacarpals.
