Behavior of Ce, Dy, Tm, Gd, Am, Cm, and Bk in the LiI-PrI2-PrI3 system
is studied. In contrast to americium, Ce, Gd, Cm, and Bk cocrystalliz
e with solid PrI2; the respective cocrystallization coefficients lambd
a are 0.32, 1.06, 0.42, and 0.32. For Am as well as Dy and Tm the cocr
ystallization coefficients lambda fall in the range of 0.007-0.012. Th
e conclusion is made that actinides having d electronic configuration
in the 2+ oxidation state are capable to form mixed condensed clusters
of the Pr(An)I-2 type.
