Expressions for the positions of forbidden hyperfine (h.f.) doublets,
and those of the four peaks in each of the allowed h.f. line, in the c
entral sextet of the EPR spectrum of the Mn2+ ion in a polycrystalline
material have been derived, taking into account both the axial (D) an
d the orthorhombic (E) parameters. It is concluded that more detailed
information can be obtained from hyperfine forbidden doublet separatio
ns by recording EPR spectrum at lower klystron frequencies. On the oth
er hand, the allowed line positions can be used to estimate the parame
ters D, E at higher klystron frequencies, where they are better resolv
ed. Strategies have been discussed on how to estimate the Values of D
and E from a polycrystalline Mn2+ EPR spectrum using these expressions
depending on resolution of h.f. lines, without computer simulations.
