A. Shand et al., PALLIATION OF A MALIGNANT GASTROCOLIC FISTULA ENDOSCOPIC HUMAN FIBRINSEALANT INJECTION, European journal of gastroenterology & hepatology, 9(10), 1997, pp. 1009-1011
We report the case of a female patient with Hodgkin's disease resistan
t to therapy who developed a gastrocolic fistula as a consequence of h
er disease, leading to distressing faeculent vomiting. This was not co
nsidered to be amenable to surgical resection and her symptoms were su
ccessfully palliated endoscopically using injection of human fibrin se
alant into the gastric and colonic aspect of the fistula tract. Both m
echanical sealing and promotion of healing by human fibrin sealant are
likely to be responsible for its efficacy.
