Kaitocephalin was isolated from Eupenicillium shearii as a glutamate r
eceptor antagonist, which protected chick telencephalic neurons as wel
l as mt hippocampal neurons from kainate toxicity. It consists of a py
rrolidine moiety with tricarboxylic acids and a dichlorohydroxybenzoat
