Lamprophyre dykes intrude the late Proterozoic metamorphic terrain of
Schirmacher Oasis, Queen Maud Land, East Antarctica. Rb-Sr whole-rock/
mineral isochron ages of two lamprophyre dykes are 455 +/- 12 Ma (Sr-i
= 0.70886 +/- 5) and 458 +/- 6 Ma (Sr-i = 0.71388 +/- 98). This lampr
ophyre dyke activity of Schirmacher Oasis, may be interpreted as a man
ifestation of post orogenic alkaline magmatism related to the Ross oro
geny of the Transantarctic mountains.
