Abstract
Computer data bases of the two blood banks in Ekaterinburg were analys ed to obtain the estimates of prevalence and incidence of viral hepati tides B and C among blood donors in 1994-1996. It is shown that an inc rease of the estimated values occurred mainly due to improvements in t he blood screening technology. Problems concerning generalization of t he estimates based on random sampling are also discussed.
