Abstract
The reaction of 1,2-, 1,3- and 1,4-di(chloromethyl)benzenes (la-c) and different electrophiles [(PrCHO)-C-i, (BuCHO)-C-t, PhCHO, (CH2)(5)CO, PhCOMe, Me3SiCl] with an excess of lithium powder and a catalytic amo unt of DTBB (4 mol%) in THF at 0 degrees C leads, after hydrolysis wit h water, to the expected dotes or disilylated compounds asa-cf.
