Abstract
A surge Protection system is presented that uses general-purpose commu nication line protectors on the powering link of fiber-to-the-curb sys tems. The impulse reset capability of the protectors in this nontypica l application is addressed by controls on the powering source and capa citance. Calculations, laboratory tests, and a field test confirm the effectiveness of the approach.
