The structure of strontium iron(III) pentafluoride hemihydrate, obtain
ed by hydrothermal growth, has been determined by single-crystal X-ray
diffraction. The structure contains octahedral [FeF5](n) trans-vertex
-sharing chains, isolated [FeF5(H2O)] octahedra, chains of SrF10 polyh
edra sharing two opposite faces and SrF8 isolated polyhedra.
