Abstract
This paper addresses the use of an active power line conditioner (APLC ) for holding voltage harmonics and voltage distortion within IEEE-519 guidelines at a set of power system busses. The following two related problems are solved: 1) what size APLC is needed to meet IEEE-519 vol tage constraints at each bus? and 2) where should an APLC be placed fo r maximum performance? Straightforward techniques for finding optimal or near-optimal solutions to these problems are presented, and an exam ple is used to illustrate the solution procedure.
